HUSH HUSH NOISE & WIRED TO THE SKY
Jun

9:00 PM21:00

HUSH HUSH NOISE & WIRED TO THE SKY

Hush Hush Noise is an experimental pop band from Victoria BC, who combine organic sounds with electronics to create memorable songs. “An ever changing creation of sound that wavers between the pit of your worst fears and the euphoria of love at its peak."

Who is in the band?:
Lily Fawn- Lily has an unconventional songwriting style that’s like storytelling set to music. She sings both through her voice and her musical saw, a most serene and enchanting sound. She also emboldens Hush Hush Noise’s rhythmic assault with drums of all variety.
Pop montreal says, “Lily fills the stage with charm to burn".

Eric Hogg - Eric has been recording, playing guitar and writing songs since age 10. His experience making noise and electronic music has left an indelible impact on his approach to pop music.

Wired To The Sky (solo)
Wired To The Sky is the ever-evolving solo project of Canadian artist, Dylan Perkons. While relocating from Montreal to the West Coast after the dissolution of his orchestral-folk project, Mind That Bird, he began writing and performing new material, frequently collaborating with a rotating cast of Vancouver Island musicians. In late 2016 Perkons and his band entered the studio to record their debut album as Wired To The Sky, produced by Juno Award-winner Colin Stewart (Dan Mangan, Black Mountain, Yukon Blonde). The 2017 release, titled Steady Sparrow, Steady Flight finds Perkons' residing comfortably in a post-Americana landscape. Though his dusty baritone remains at the front and center of the album, the dynamic arrangements carry the listener through the songs. Swaying between colorful indie folk and eerie country-noir, the music compliments the earnest writing woven throughout the songs. Wired To The Sky is currently working on a follow-up release produced by Evening Hymns’ Jonas Bonnetta. The as of yet untitled effort is slated for a late 2018 release.

LONELY HEARTSTRING BAND

An evening of highly acclaimed Bluegrass!

Nourished by deep roots in the expansive canon of traditional American music, The Lonely Heartstring Band embodies the modern American condition—an understanding and reverence for the past that informs a push into the future. George Clements (guitar, vocals) Patrick M'Gonigle (fiddle, vocals) Charles Clements (bass, vocals) Matt Witler (mandolin) and Gabe Hirshfeld (banjo) bring together their own musical styles to create a sound greater than the sum of its parts.

"These are musicians of dynamic imagination and massive musical talent. However, the music on their album feels as comfortable as a pair of long-worn leather slippers. A fascinating debut." - Tom Clarke, Elmore Magazine

"With George Clement’s soothing vocals leading the way, The Lonely Heartstring Band achieves one of the highest callings of music’s true purpose.” - Gregory Victor, Parcbench

"Original, effusive songs compose the bulk of the album, words bursting forth in staccatos of whimsy and rhyme." - Donald Teplyske, Lonesome Road Review

"We won’t know until December if The Lonely Heartstring Band will get a GRAMMY nomination for its engaging 2016 Rounder Records debut album, Deep Waters. But this fast-rising young quintet is the most notable bluegrass band to come out of Berklee well, maybe ever.” - George Varga, San Diego Union Tribune

"Masterful musicians that have carefully crafted a unique brand of bluegrass.” - Good Times

"One of the most talked-about young groups on the modern bluegrass scene.” - Vineyard Gazette

Live music from 9:00pm.

OCIE ELLIOTT

Ocie Elliott is musical duo Jon Middleton and Sierra Lundy from Victoria, B.C., Canada. The two met playing music at a festival on the small, wind-swept Salt Spring Island, where their love of music and the chemistry of their voices fostered an instant connection. Jon and Sierra’s voices meld beautifully in a cascade of sound, described by one reviewer as “...the aural equivalent of indigo painted skies and the first summer stars."

Their unique blend of contemporary and indie folk music is influenced by artists such as Gillian Welch, Simon & Garfunkel and Angus and Julia Stone , and born of the natural landscape of Canada’s wild west coast.

In late October 2017, they released their first EP to the world, recorded in the woods of Vancouver Island, and immediately attracted an international following. Since then, they’ve opened for the likes of Mason Jennings, Joshua Hyslop and Current Swell, and plan to release another EP soon.

"Mark's music is so authentic in its back porch vibe, it seems to come with its own direct link to Loretta Lynn's '60s heyday - like her heroes, Mark is not afraid to rail against a man too drunk to understand his own fuck-ups. Not to say Mark is some kind of saint: Her gigs are known for their off-balance candor and ribald humor as much as the homespun tunes. Go for the music, stay for the dirty jokes." Metromix New York

THE GORD LIGHT BRIGADE

What can be written about the Gord Light Brigade that hasn't already been screamed from every rooftop and second-story window on Vancouver Island? Nothing! That's what!

Harken unto these most esteemed of the sonically-inclined!

Adam Cleland!
Roz Jeffery!
Matt Pease!
Gord Light!

Formidable individually, but together, almost ludicrously overqualified for nearly any and every task imaginable by human mind!

On the evening of May 4th, they've set their collective sights on returning to the always-impeccable Northern Quarter to perform as many of Gord's songs as they can fit into two hour-long sets (and round the rest of the night out with covers by Elvis Costello, Porno For Pyros, Tears For Fears, and other great stuff), so clear ye your calendar!

Also, yeah, it's May the 4th so you can bet they'll try to work in some kind of Star Wars angle. What else would you do that's so good, anyway?

Raised in the Swannanoa valley of Western North Carolina, what began as an obsession with Mississippi Hill Country blues has led multi-instrumentalist Reed Turchii to lead his own blues orchestra, head up a vinyl pumping record label and receive wide acclaim as a solo artist.

He's been lauded by Greg Vandy of KEXP as "a familiar reality in this time of cultural and political uncertainty" and praised by American Standard Time as "The sound of a new American music". Reed has been featured in Rolling Stone, American Songwriter, Oxford American, and Fretboard Journal.

One of Victoria's favourite guitar sons, Dan Weisenberger (aka Doc Hoss) will be sharing the bill. Dan is a well travelled and learned folk and root artist. He also has a penchant for deep blues, country soul and heavy metal.
